Send a Letter of Support for AB1647
The Catastrophic Athletic Injury Prevention Act of 2010

It is an exciting time to be an athletic trainer in California as the full language for AB 1647, The Catastrophic Athletic Injury Prevention Act, will be released shortly. This will be the first time that any California law addresses the athletic training profession.

The bill will validate the medical expertise of athletic trainers, giving them discretion on critical return-to-play decisions following a concussion as well as regulate the profession itself by mandating that only those certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) can call themselves athletic trainers

It would also institute certain protections for our high school student athletes including the on-site availability of an AED during all practices and competitions and the implementation of an approved heat acclimatization program. This is a significant first step in state protection of youth athletes and recognition of the athletic training profession.

The CATA leadership, with the support of the NATA, has been working very hard over the last nine months and now we have good language, 17 bill co-sponsors and support from other advocacy groups and most importantly, momentum. But for us to succeed in passing this bill, WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Please take a few minutes to send a
letter of support TODAY.
